What do you get for Destabilizing Ghosts?

In Ghostbusters World, you can Destabilize ghosts, rather than simply catch them.

There are two ways to destabilize a ghost. In battle and from your containment unit.

Destabilizing a Ghost in Battle

If you’re looking for shards, taking down a boss, or you simply don’t want to catch a ghost you’re fighting, you can destabilize the ghost using your secondary weapons. Using your Boson Caster, Meson Collider or Shock Blast Emitter are the only ways to destabilize a ghost in battle.

When you do this, you’ll get experience points (XP) and a shard for a regular ghost. If you’re fighting a boss, you could get shards, in addition to other items. There have been times that I haven’t gotten any shards, so be aware that this can happen (especially on easy).

Destabilizing a Ghost in your Containment Unit

If you’re trying to get one of your ghosts up to six stars, this will become a very important tactic. It’s also useful to do this to clear out your containment unit of duplicate ghosts that you don’t need, or to remove ghosts when you have a better version of the same ghost.

Here is what you’ll get based on the number of stars that your ghost has when you destabilize them.

The Slime Shards are what you’ll be looking for, to help you level your ghosts up.

Upgrading Ghost Rank

Upgrading your ghosts is vital to progressing in the game. To do this, you’ll need resources. You can upgrade your ghosts to six stars, and you’ll need a lot of materials to do that. As you play, though, you’ll realize that you’ll start racking up a TON of PKE Crystals.

You can level your ghosts up by taking them into battle in the Ghost Dimension and Story Mode, and also by using PKE Crystals to level up between the Rank Upgrade levels (10, 20, 30, 40, 50).

Depending on the number of stars your ghost starts with, you’ll have a Max Level that your ghost can hit. A one star ghost will max at level 10, at which point, if you want to level the ghost up, you’d use resources to upgrade.

You can also rank any ghost up to get the slime shard that you need. For example, if you’re looking for a level 4 shard, rank a ghost up to 4 stars and you can destabilize it to get a level 4 shard.

Here is a chart of the resources needed to go from max level to max level (you can only proceed with a rank upgrade when you’ve hit the max level).

The element shards you’ll spend will match the ghost’s type. For example, you’ll spend fire element shards to upgrade a fire type ghost.
