New Ghostbusters II does not bury you in mechanics, which is part of its charm. But there are a few details that make the game much smoother once you know them.
Default controls
- D-Pad: move
- Start: pause / status screen
- A: proton beam
- B: ghost trap
How catching works
The core loop is simple: pin the ghost with the proton stream, keep the beam on it until it changes color, then use the trap. If you break the hold too early, you often just reset the fight and waste time.
The hidden secret menu
At the title screen, press A + B and then Start.
This secret menu lets you:
- swap the A and B button jobs
- change the difficulty between Easy, Normal, Hard, and Pro
- listen to BGM and SE audio tracks
Best beginner settings
If the default buttons feel backward, change them immediately. This game becomes much nicer when beam and trap are where your hands expect them to be.
Do the Ghostbusters play differently?
No. The five Ghostbusters do not have different stats or special abilities here, so pick whoever you like best. This is a style choice, not a build choice.
Small tricks that help
- Side attacks are safer against charging enemies.
- Some ghosts can be hit through walls or furniture, which helps more than you might expect.
- Do not outrun your beam range. Vigo and Janosz fights both punish sloppy spacing.
- Patience saves health. If a room feels chaotic, wait for the enemy pattern to show itself.
Best overall tip
This is a cleaner, fairer game than several of the early Ghostbusters releases, so trust it a little. You usually do not need weird tricks. You mostly need calm movement and good timing.
