If you want the short version, New Ghostbusters II is a six-stage game with a pretty steady difficulty climb. It starts gentle, gets maze-heavy in the apartment stage, then turns into a boss remix by the museum.

Stage order

  1. Court Building
  2. Abandoned Subway
  3. Peter’s Apartment Building
  4. Sewers of Slime
  5. Museum
  6. Altar / Vigo

1) Court Building

This is the introduction stage. It teaches the game’s basic ghost-catching rhythm and introduces ambush enemies, furniture throwers, and your first boss.

  • Best tip: take the Scoleri fight one brother at a time and calm the room down early.

2) Abandoned Subway

This chapter is where the game starts asking for better positioning. The mine-cart enemies can wreck a run if you drift onto the tracks at the wrong time.

  • Best tip: play for survival first and points second whenever carts are involved.

3) Peter’s Apartment Building

This is the longest-feeling stage because of the repeated rooms and enemy mixes. It also has the easiest place in the game to lose time by getting turned around.

  • Best tip: watch the doorway that flips your position so you do not walk yourself into a loop.

4) Sewers of Slime

The terrain matters here. Slower movement and awkward footing make regular enemies more dangerous than usual.

  • Best tip: clear Pillar enemies early so they do not clutter up slow slime sections.

5) Museum

This is the game’s pressure test. You revisit earlier enemy ideas, re-fight boss patterns, and then deal with the roughest real boss battle in the whole game.

  • Best tip: save your focus for Uber Janosz. That is the fight most likely to knock a solid run sideways.

6) Altar

This is basically the final march to Vigo. It is short, but do not switch off mentally just because the path is simple.

  • Best tip: Vigo is a rhythm fight. Stay disciplined and do not overcommit.

Best beginner route advice

Nothing here is wildly non-linear, so the real route advice is more about pace than path. Slow down in the subway, stay oriented in the apartment building, and bring patience into the Museum. That alone will clean up most first-playthrough mistakes.
