Ghostbusters is the movie that started the franchise and established the core team, the (mostly) New York setting, and the mix of horror-comedy weirdness that everything else keeps bouncing off of.
Characters like Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore, Dana Barrett, Louis Tully, Janine, Gozer, and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man all leave fingerprints on the stories that follow.

Why this movie still anchors the franchise
The first film gives Ghostbusters its house rules. It builds the team, the gear, the firehouse, the containment unit, the humor, and the supernatural scale that later movies, games, comics, and shows either continue or remix.
For GBWorldHub, it is also the movie that most of the game side keeps circling back to. A lot of Ghostbusters games borrow its villains, imagery, locations, or team dynamic even when they tell a different story.
