Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Free DLC Pack 2 Launches April 20

Kylie Griffin Cosmetics from Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed

Is your proton pack charged? Have you gotten Real in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, but now you’re ready to take things to the Extreme? Are you read to bust some more ghosts in a new location? Or have you been too busy binge-watching the Bass Masters marathon?

In any case, it doesn’t take a legal eagle to get this update. This is the second free DLC pack from Illfonic, and it drops at about 2pm EST on Thursday, April 20, 2023.

According to the press release, Busters can now take on an infamous herald of Gozer while dodging new minions and AI.

“Is it Ghostbusters 2?”

This update features a new level called, in short, The Courthouse. Inspired by Ghostbusters 2‘s famous courtroom scene, we now get to run around a level that is a full courthouse with multiple courtrooms, offices, and hallways. This map looks like it will be a fun one. I really like the atmosphere in the pictures. (Don’t think it’s lost on us that the second DLC pack has a level inspired by the second Ghostbusters film. I’m sure that was intentional.)

The Terror Sentinel from Ghostbusters: Afterlife joins the party

While the Scoleri brothers would have been a great addition to the game, word on the street is that they may be off-limits because of the video game’s rating. My understanding is that once a game has been rated, the DLC must be the same rating or lower, but can not exceed the rating of the base game. If it does exceed the rating of the base game, the entire game’s rating may be changed to the rating of the DLC, and that’s not something they want to see happen. The Scoleri brothers, because they were people, and look like people, would mean the rating would move from E10+ to M, which is not something they want to do.

Anyhow, the first DLC pack brought of Ghostbusters: Afterlife‘s Muncher, and this pack brings us that film’s Terror Sentinel. Part of a new ghost type called Possessor, it is joined by two other new ghosts, Scuttle and Hellion. These ghosts can possess both Civilians and Busters!

More like Ghostbusters: The Video Game Multiplayer?

A new AI type called Drudges is being introduced. These little entities will help the ghost to haunt the building as well as scare humans. The ghost can also use rifts to spawn more of these little guys. This element sounds like it could make the multiplayer feel a bit similar to the multiplayer mode in Ghostbusters: The Video Game, where there were many ghosts to bust or destroy. Not saying it’s 100% going to be like that, but it’s things like this that make it closer to that experience in small ways.

Trap Minions add to this feel, as the ghost can plant one of these on the ground or inside of objects. When the stasis field is tripped, it attacks.

From the Real to the Extreme

The first DLC pack gave us shells and cosmetics from The Real Ghostbusters. This one gives us the same additions, this time from Extreme Ghostbusters. The customization options are already insane, and this will make it even more so. Want a Real Ghostbusters Proton Pack and Thrower, with a Ghostbusters PKE Meter and an Extreme Ghostbusters Ghost Trap? You can do that! Mix and match components and shells to your heart’s content.

I’m hoping they’ll have the ability to create character load-outs soon. It’s a feature that has been confirmed to be in development, and will give me the desire to do what I haven’t done yet: create more characters such as the Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters, as well as Janine!

Quality of Life Improvements

We can also look forward to the gear upgrade menu being overhauled, bots playing better (both Ghost and Buster bots), balance, and other bug fixes. I’m sure we’ll get a full list of improvements in a few days to explain all of this.

Look for more posts about this throughout the day tomorrow, as we highlight each update with many pictures and screenshots from the new update!
